Kevy Nova: Songs

Bastille '94

(Kevy Nova)
Kevy Nova

This song was also written in 1994 and was my theme song up until "So."

I was playing guitar in a country & western cover band. I hated the music but the band seemed to get a lot of high paying gigs and I needed the money. We were doing a Bastille Day party at some yacht club in Long Island. The party was hosted by the owner of the yacht club and I had never seen so much money being spent on a party before. There was a mountain of lobsters, cases of champagne with gold flakes in it and the biggest fireworks show I'd ever seen.

As fun as all that sounds, it was the most depressing gig ever. During one of our breaks, I struck up a conversation with this pleasant old woman who was wearing jewels worth more money than I'll ever see. Suddenly, her husband (who looked and sounded exactly like Thurston Howell III from Gilligan's Island) rushed over and said, "Lovey, that's the entertainment!"

This woman, who just a second ago was having a nice chat with me, suddenly looked at me as though I had murdered her children. She spun around and quickly walked off with her husband saying "Why didn't anyone tell me!"

It was at that moment I decided that no amount of money is worth playing music you hate to people who regard you as nothing more than a performing animal. I would rather play music that I am passionate about for free than get paid playing music that I don't care for.

Here I am sitting by the sea shore, trying to find what it is that I'm looking for.

Lot's of people walking by, looking at me but they don't see the sorts of things I want them to see.

Yeah, yeah, in the wrong place.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a disgrace.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a flying ace.

Yeah, yeah, I think I better hide my face.

Lot's of pretty girls won't talk to me and all I have here is some seaweed.

I'm making lot's of money playing guitar but it doesn't look like I am gonna go too far.

Yeah, yeah, in the wrong place.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a disgrace.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a flying ace.

Yeah, yeah, I think I better hide my face. Go!

Sometimes I feel like I don't even have to try. But then I fail and have the nerve to wonder why.

Yeah, yeah, in the wrong place.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a disgrace.

Yeah, yeah, I'm a flying ace.

Yeah, yeah, I think I better hide my face.
